“A superb curational service” — Boing Boing

“Impress intellectuals with a subscription to Stack America” — Daily Candy

“A fantasy service for magazine lovers all over the United States” — Mr Magazine

Stack America brings the best in hard-to-find independent magazines directly to your home or office. Based in New England, every two months it sends out a carefully selected independent magazine to its subscribers, along with posters, zines, and anything else we can get our hands on.

Think of it as an independent magazine club that delivers an inspiring perspective on the world every two months. It’s the perfect gift for anyone who works in editorial, graphic design or advertising – or a doctor or dentist looking for something to freshen up their waiting room. If you’re interested reading the best in modern storytelling, Stack America is for you.

  • How does it work?
Stack America is a bimonthly service, and subscribers sign up for a year. The contents of each mailing are selected by Andrew Losowsky (co-curator of the Colophon independent magazine festival, editor of the books We Love Magazines and We Make Magazines), and includes the latest issue of an independent magazine, as well as numerous extras carefully chosen for the Stack America audience. These have so far included infographics from GOOD magazine, a bilingual “post-design” newsprint magazine from Spain, and exclusive prints as part of what we call “The Designers Series.”
  • What kind of magazines do you send?
The magazines chosen by Stack America represent some of the best in English-language, independent publishing from the USA, Canada and beyond. Titles so far have included Meatpaper, Pin-Up, Adbusters, and Embrocation. If you know of a title you’d like us to consider, drop us a line. Titles are chosen entirely on merit, and no publisher pays to be included. Stack America carries completely different magazines to the UK-based flavor of Stack, and ships directly out of New York.
  • What if I already subscribe to one of your magazines?
Let us know what you subscribe to when you sign up, so that we can send you something different in the case of an overlap.
  • Is it only for residents of the USA?
Anyone in the world can subscribe to Stack America, though it’s cheaper for people with a USA mailing address (including Puerto Rico). You can of course subscribe to both Stack America and the UK-based Stack if you want to – simply go to the subscription page and choose the delivery options that are right for you. If your mailing address is in Rhode Island, there is a supplementary 7% sales tax.
  • Can I purchase a Stack America subscription as a gift?
Absolutely – simply pay for the appropriate service and send us a note with the mailing address you’d like the subscription to go to, either through Paypal or email. We’ll also email you a small something to give to the recipient. What better gift for the designer/writer/print fetishist who has everything?
  • How can my company talk to your subscribers?
Carefully selected advertisers may be invited to place inserts in Stack America envelopes to help keep our costs down. However, subscribers’ details will never be given or sold to any third party, in any circumstances. If you are interested in advertising to a highly discerning, design-literate audience within a Stack America mailout, let us know.
  • How do I cancel my subscription?
In the unlikely event that you’re not satisfied with any aspect of the Stack America service, you can cancel your subscription and receive a full refund for any magazines you didn’t receive. Simply send an email to america@stackmagazines.com stating your name and address, and the reason for canceling your subscription.
  • Anything else I should know?
Stack America is not connected to the Stack Media Group or Stack magazine.
