Fashion & style

Vestoj magazine has become an annual favourite: a fashion magazine that goes beyond trends and styles, it doesn’t publish fashion shoots and instead takes a cultural, economic and political view of the clothes we wear. Editor Anja Aronowsky Cronberg dropped into the office last week, and I took the opportunity of speaking to her about the latest issue, themed around ‘masculinities’.

I love the reclamation of the Cerne Abbas giant for the cover, reimagined as a sort of David Shrigley weirdo by designers Sara and Valerio at Studio Blanco. Anja and I talk about him in some detail during our conversation and I’m aware that non-Brits might not be familiar with him, so here he is in his original state as a prehistoric chalk sculpture on a hillside in Dorset:

And here he is as the Vestoj cover star – note the blue version you’ll see in the shops, and a rather more flaccid character on white background who you’ll discover if you remove the dust jacket:

I had a great time getting to grips with this issue, so I really hope you enjoy the podcast. If you do, remember you can hear all our previous episodes on Soundcloud or iTunes, and if you follow us we’ll deliver the next episode direct to your device next Friday. Happy listening!
