This year’s Indiecon festival took place in Hamburg from 5–6 September, bringing people together from all over Europe for a brilliantly defiant (but still socially distanced) celebration of print. I really wanted to be there in person but decided against travelling, so when the organisers suggested that we could pick bits from their recordings and use them to create an episode of our podcast, I jumped at the chance.

You’re going to hear from Nina Prader, who runs Lady Liberty Press; she took her microphone off to find out more about some of the magazines that caught her eye. First up there’s Lisa Moura from Alien, a lovely looking Portuguese zine about identity, then there’s Anna Broujean and Leïla Boutaam from Club Sandwich in France – if you’re a regular listener to this podcast you might remember the episode last year with Anna speaking about the magazine, but this time they’re talking about their new chocolate issue, and why they reckon it’s their best one yet. Then you’ll hear from Antje Mayer-Salvi from C/O Vienna in Austria, and finally Fiona Dummann from Word, which is based in Münster in Germany.

I’d like to say thanks very much to Nina for sharing those interviews with us, and to Danny Steinmeyer at Byte FM, who took care of the sound and editing. They filmed all those interviews and lots of others too, so if you want to see some of this year’s Indiecon just take a look at their Instagram page for tons of videos and pictures. And finally, a big congratulations to the team at Die Brueder for pulling off this year’s festival – I hope next year’s event doesn’t need to seem quite so impossible!
