Art & design

There’s a select group of magazines that come to define their subject matter, and Eye is one of those titles. A look through the Eye archives reveals an encyclopaedic survey of graphic design, with thoughtful, opinionated writing stretching back over 25 years and covering a huge range of artists and eras.

But Eye isn’t just good because it has been around for a long time. Led by editor John L Walters and art director Simon Esterson, it unearths utterly fascinating stories and presents them alongside beautiful photography and insightful graphics that get right to the heart of the work on the page. The latest issue is themed around illustration and has a strong political undercurrent running through it – take a look at the video below to see how they jump from one artist to another, revealing ideas, influences and perspectives as they go. This is exciting, expert magazine making that never fails to impress.
