Art and protest on the pages of Contra magazine

Untitled-1

Launched at the start of last year, Contra magazine explores the meeting place of conflict and visual culture. This latest issue zooms in on the subject of protest, with an international line up of stories that includes art from North Korea, improvised weapons from the streets of Ukraine, and artist Nick Cave’s beautifully arresting sound suits, which were initially inspired by the police beating of Rodney King, and more recently by the Black Lives Matter movement.

Take a look at the video above and you’ll see a guided flick through the issue, with its big, engaging images and associated text. Contra was one of our favourite launches of 2018 and this is a solid second issue, at its strongest when it combines its imagery with the sort of opinion and information that comes from calling on expert contributors.

We’re very pleased to have copies of Contra available in the Stack shop – check the product page for lots more spreads and a story list, and of course to buy a copy for yourself.
