Bringing together photographers, illustrators, designers, musicians, writers and visual artists, The Plant Journal publishes personal stories and artistic renderings of the plant world.

Featuring a hazy cover shot by Yoshinori Mizutani, the ninth issue of The Plant comes as a celebration of summer. We caught up with art director Carol Montpart to learn about the making of the magazine.

In the making of this issue we…

Explored
Summer, the perfect season to celebrate life. This issue’s plant monograph is dedicated to the humble yet compelling geranium. It’s an issue full of flowers, featuring Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, illustrator Tomi Ungerer, artistic duo Scheltens & Abbenes, Antwerp-based florist Mark Colle and many more.

Designer @antoniarola_ shares with us his seed-pod collection. This is a making off shot by photographer @cokebartrina who captured the story. 'Seeds are the perfect embodiment of function in form – each shape reveals a new aspect of the rich variety of functional strategies that plants use to propel germination' #theplantmagazine #theplant #seed #seedpod #antoniarola #cokebartrina

Inside the issue Spanish designer Antoni Arola details his passion for seeds, we experience a world without plants with photographer Kuba Ryniewicz, and explore Cornwall’s seaweed life and the lush of Jamaica with Mark Borthwick.

Were surprised that
One of us is expecting a baby.

Couldn’t stop laughing at
How simple we thought the paper weights DIY process would be. (It wasn’t!)

Coke Bartrina teaches us how to make paper-weights with dandelions in issue 9 – easy peasy! #theplantmagazine #theplant #paperweights #dandelion #cokebartrina
