This week’s Sampler offer is Banana magazine – a celebratory exploration of contemporary Asian culture.

Published out of New York’s Chinatown, it blurs Eastern and Western boundaries to create a fresh voice for anyone who identifies as ‘banana’ (yellow on the outside, white on the inside, and a stridently positive, empowering term in this context).

Behind the special die-cut cover of issue two you’ll find stories featuring mixed-race Asians reflecting on the physical, cultural and sociological identities that define them; the Japanese dance crew XYZ Boyz; a personal exploration of Chrystie Street in New York’s Chinatown, and two Chinese-Americans’ relationship with their jewellery.

Banana is printed in a limited edition of only 1000 copies, of which 100 are available through Sampler. So if you count yourself amongst the banana crowd, or if you’re just interested in reading about the life and work of this challenging, creative, emergent subculture, make sure to grab a copy.

As always, with Sampler you get 10% off plus free shipping to the UK, US and Europe (and heavily subsidised anywhere else)
