Though coined ‘European review of culture’, Berlin Quarterly spreads its investigation to the furthest, most obscure corners of the world. Birthed out of a love for English literary titles, it draws inspiration from The New Yorker, Granta, and Paris Review, but with an attitude that belongs to the German capital.

What is Berlin Quarterly? What makes it different to the rest?
Berlin Quarterly is a European review of long form journalism, literature and the arts. It’s a new cultural journal with global perspective. It combines in-depth reportage, literature and visual culture. We aim to bring our readers insightful and inquiring reportage and stories from around the globe through the viewpoint of Berlin. We aim to present human stories that go beyond the mainstream.

Who makes Berlin Quarterly?
Berlin Quarterly is produced in Berlin with a small and very dedicated team. It’s a labour of love. We look out at the world from Berlin with an open mind.

Who reads it?
People interested in reading about subjects that you cannot find in mainstream media, who want to take time to look deeply into a subject. We have readers of all ages and backgrounds and from all around the world.

Why do you work in magazines?
It’s a passion for print media and storytelling.

Aside from the print magazine, what else are you involved in?
I have lived in Berlin since 1994 and am involved in many aspects of the city both in business and culture. As a developer of major architectural projects I have created a platform for the promotion of art interventions and collaboration between artists and architects. I also provide artists with working and exhibition space when developing new projects.

What would you change about Berlin Quarterly if you could?
I think it would be great if we can grow the magazine and broaden our team, contributors and readers in the next years.

Where do you see Berlin Quarterly in five years?
With all the challenges facing print media at present I would consider it a big success if we are still producing the same quality magazine in five years time, and celebrating our 15th issue.
