Pets

Maybe it’s because of its relatively buoyant economy, or maybe it’s because of its reputation for terrifying wildlife (sharks, spiders, koalas…) but Australia has emerged as the world’s leading centre for pet-based independent publishing.

Following hot on the heels of last year’s Melbourne-based Cat People, comes Four & Sons, a magazine made in Victoria and dedicated to the role of dogs in creative culture. Packed with beautiful photographs of dogs, artworks inspired by dogs, artists who live with dogs, and stories about dogs, it’s going to be a big hit with anyone who has a soft spot for man’s best friend.

It’s a carefully structured magazine, and as I say in the video below it would have been good to see them playing with their fun-loving subject a bit more, but as a first issue this is a fantastic piece of work, and sets the bar high for issue two coming this autumn / winter.
