Isolarii seeks to revive a Renaissance genre of the same name. Each issue is conceived as an ‘island’; a world unto itself. This issue, entitled Street Cop, is by Robert Coover and Art Spiegelman. The pair have spent their lives grappling with political mythos and join forces here to address the current state of the American psyche.

Written in late 2019 and illustrated over the course of the pandemic in 2020, this short tale is a visceral response to reality’s dissolution and a reckoning of political disaster. Still, it offers a path to emergent empathy. It is Spiegelman’s first original work in over a decade and the only text by Coover to be illustrated.

In this issue:

  • A lonely cop battles his way through a baffling future city, in a thinly veiled comment on our current cultural state
