The Gourmand was named Magazine of the Year at the Stack Awards in 2015, so we were particularly excited to deliver this seventh issue to our subscribers in March 2016. As the cover states, this is “A food and culture journal”, and over the years it has established itself as one of the most popular and distinctive independent titles.

Creative director David Lane does an outstanding job of treading the fine line between cool and funny, and comes up with a magazine that’s absolutely bursting with little touches of personality. Printed on a lovely selection of papers and set in its own custom typeface created in collaboration with Monotype, this is a magazine that’s all about the details.

In this issue:

  • Kyle Hugall muses on the very English history of the pudding
  • The fascinating origin story of Weight Watchers
  • The culinary exploits of legendary horror actor Vincent Price
  • Reflections on the five tastes of sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami, accompanied by Jenny van Sommers’ photography (see cover)

The Gourmand issue 10 and issue 11 are also available in the Stack shop
