Update

Our new series of independent magazine nights got off to a great start last week, when we packed out the basement of The Book Club in Shoreditch for An Introduction to Independent Magazines. (Watch the Stack blog for the video from that event coming in the next week or so.)

Tickets are now on sale for the next session, on Tuesday 22nd November, which will be dedicated to the tricky subject of How to Edit an Independent Magazine, and I’m delighted that we have two excellent editors ready to show us how they do what they do:

John L Walters is editor of the authoritative and insightful graphic design journal Eye – he has decades of experience under his belt and I can’t think of a better person to explain the fundamentals of an editor’s job.

Liv Siddall is the editor of WePresent, and she has previously edited for It’s Nice That, Rough Trade and Riposte. She’s also a brilliant public speaker and I’m really looking forward to hearing her share what she has learned over the years.

The best part of our event last week was the Q&A session and we’ll make sure there’s plenty of time for asking questions again, via the Q&As on stage and also with some drinks at the bar afterwards. If you’re working on becoming a writer and editor, this is the ideal opportunity for you to hear first-hand about the craft of editing, and if you’re more generally interested in magazines, it will offer a great insight into the whole process of putting words on the page.

Tickets cost £6, or if you’re a student just email us from your university account and ask for our discount, and I’ll send the code to get free tickets.
