Update

And we’re done. With a final flourish, Future Perfect ran away with yesterday’s vote, making them the cover of the month for December. I think Georgia Lewis summed up the general sentiment best – well done Georgia, I’ll be in touch today to organise your free Stack subscription.

Thanks very much to everyone who voted, both on Instagram and Twitter. As with all things Stack this competition was thoroughly unscientific, but I think the final 12 covers we ended up with offer a really great snapshot of independent publishing in 2014 and I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes next in 2015.

The final covers are listed below, and I’ve also made a Pinterest board that doesn’t require quite so much scrolling. I’m clocking off for a few days now, but I’ll be back next week with some more year end retrospective stuff, and some things looking ahead to next year.

Merry Christmas!

January – Rooms

My first encounter with @roomsmagazine. Now that's what I call a cover.

Fresh out of the frozen north, No Brainer's pilot issue gets it's head around music in Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. And New York (that's north too, right?)

When you've been going for as long as Cabinet it doesn't matter if nobody can read the name of your magazine. Love this.

Yum. @moodmusicfood scours the world for the best music / food collaborations and comes up with some delicious-looking junk. Think this pie looks good? You should see the pink wafer biscuits…

November – Benji Knewman

Fresh out of Latvia, @benjiknewman is a brilliant piece of enigmatic publishing. But who exactly is Benji Knewman? Check our behind the scenes interview on the Stack blog this morning for the bizarre back story…

December – Future Perfect

Another blistering piece of publishing out of Australia, @futureperfectmag has joined the likes of @weaponsofreason and @dg_quarterly to take a slow, considered look at the world. In this issue that means asylum seekers, ISIS and "mind-bending mathematics". Love it.
