Kickstarter has become the de facto way for small independent publishers to get their projects off the ground, offering a platform for generating not just cash, but also an audience for a totally new magazine.

But with so many would-be publishers competing for attention, what does it take to run a successful campaign? For our next Printout event we’ll bring together three independent magazine makers who have successfully funded three very different print projects:

Jacob Critchley co-founder of Rueville (Kickstarter, £2,011)
Katie Treggiden editor of Fiera (Kickstarter, £16,332)
Jeff Taylor publisher of Courier (Seedrs, £105,639)

They’ll speak about their various experiences running their campaigns, from deciding how much to ask for, to making their videos, to spending the money afterwards. And of course they’ll tell us what they wish they’d done differently, and crucially, whether they’d recommend crowd funding to other publishers starting out today.

This one will be packed with essential information for anyone who’s thinking about starting their own magazine, so come along and join us for a critical, clear-eyed look at the world of crowd funding for independent magazines. It’s all happening at The Book Club on Tuesday 27 September from 6.30pm, and tickets are on sale now for just £6.
