Update

Most mornings I take a quick snap of a magazine that has caught my eye and upload it to Instagram. Then I watch my phone for the rest of the day to see how many people like it.

It’s become something of an obsession, and it occurred to me that maybe other people would find the like-rate interesting too. So here, exactly 51 days into 2014, are the top 10 most popular covers of the year so far*, as voted by people following me on Instagram.

As ever, please do let me know what you think, and if you’re not already following @stackmagazines on Instagram you know what to do. I’ll keep returning to this list throughout the year so there’s plenty of time to vote for your favourite!

10. Talc
A porn magazine that’s not a porn magazine, this interiors-based cover proved popular across the board. Read my interview with Talc editor-in-chief Edward Vince for more info on what they’re up to.

09. Nero
Italian art magazine Nero caught my eye with this banana yellow special, and lots of you liked it too.

08. The Outpost
Beirut’s The Outpost is packed full of the most spectacular narrative journalism, and they know what they’re doing with a cover too. Watch my video review of the current issue to see what makes it so special.

07. Off Life
The latest issue of Bristol-based street press comics mag Off Life goes for a memorably meaty cover courtesy of The Project Twins.

06. Yvi
The new issue of Dutch English-language art magazine Yvi is dedicated to Liberation, and captured imaginations with this lovely, lush cover.

05. No Brainer
This one was literally uploaded this morning, so can probably expect to climb further up the rankings yet. Good to have a zine in the mix.

04. Rooms
An instant favourite, Rooms was posted back in January but this amazing cover still pegs it to fourth position.

03. Ride
Masters of the serial cover, Ride have been putting out gorgeous magazines for years. This cover is my favourite so far (but I say that every time).

02. Postr
The Belgian magazine that wants to invade a public space near you, Postr was a big hit. They’re in London for one night only on 24 March, speaking about their unconventional publishing venture at Printout. Tickets available now!

01. Fin
Taking number one spot (for now) is Fin, the magazine packed with Norwegian art and artists. Congratulations to Stine and the team, and good luck hanging onto it!

*As with anything Stack-related, this is all highly unscientific. I have more followers now than I did at the start of the year, so it stands to reason that pictures uploaded this week might attract more likes than those taken last month. But the results don’t follow simple chronology, and there are definite favourites that stand out above the others. And it’s fun.
