Podcast: Christoph Amend, Zeit Magazin

Most of the people we speak to on the Stack podcast are small independent publishers, figuring out how to get their labour of love in front of readers. Christoph Amend comes from the opposite end of the publishing spectrum – Zeit Magazin is the hugely popular magazine distributed with German news weekly Die Zeit, and Christoph oversees that plus a handful of other associated titles. But as he explains during our conversation, his impulse to publish stems from the same curiosity and excitement that motivates the small magazine makers we’re used to encountering in the independent world.

He’s a fascinating man, and I’m very grateful to him for making time to speak while he was in London last week. I loved hearing about his approach to commissioning, writing and editing – if you’d like to see the results of all that for yourself, check out the international edition of Zeit Magazine, which is out in shops now. (And as he notes, surprisingly popular in Berlin.)

You can find more conversations with magazine makers on our Soundcloud or iTunes pages, and remember to follow us while you’re there so we can deliver next week’s episode to you as soon as it’s ready.
