One of the big changes in independent publishing over the last few years is the way this loose group of small magazines have caught the imagination of the public at large. These days we’re seeing semi-regular coverage of independent magazines by the BBC and the broadsheets, and the independent publishing industry is gaining a reputation for growth and experimentation at a time when the biggest magazine brands are suffering from falling circulations and revenues.

But what’s fuelling this 21st-century interest in the independents? And does it really add up to a new golden age for magazine publishing, or are we just watching the final, flamboyant death throes of the dying print industry?

We’ll be getting to grips with those questions and more at the next Printout, on Tuesday 28 July, as we assemble a panel of expert authors to share their insights on the magazine industry:

Jeremy Leslie is creative director of magCulture (and co-founder of Printout) and the author of The Modern Magazine
Ruth Jamieson is the author of Print Is Dead. Long Live Print
Conor Purcell is the founder of We Are Dublin, and will publish his book The Indie Blueprint in 2016

Come along, hear their thoughts on the changing face of independent publishing and put your questions to them. We’ll be at The Book Club in Shoreditch and tickets are on sale now at £5.95 – see you there!
